GES Releases 2025/2026 Academic Calendar for Basic Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year for all Basic Schools, including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools across the country.

According to the statement issued on July 12, 2025, by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the academic year is divided into three terms, beginning in September 2025 and concluding in July 2026.

Term Dates Breakdown

First Term (15 Weeks):

  • Reopening: 2nd September, 2025

  • Closing: 18th December, 2025

  • Vacation: 19th December, 2025 – 7th January, 2026

  • Mid-Term Break: 31st October – 3rd November, 2025 (2 days)

Second Term (12 Weeks):

  • Reopening: 8th January, 2026

  • Closing: 1st April, 2026

  • Vacation: 2nd April – 20th April, 2026

Third Term (13 Weeks):

  • Reopening: 21st April, 2026

  • Closing: 23rd July, 2026

  • Vacation: 24th July, 2026

BECE Dates Announced

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for the 2025/2026 academic year is scheduled to take place from 4th May to 11th May, 2026.

GES emphasized the importance of observing public holidays that fall within the academic year and reiterated the inclusion of a two-day mid-term break in each term.

The release also thanked all school heads, teachers, parents, students, and stakeholders for their dedication throughout the 2024/2025 academic year, which is set to end on Thursday, 24th July, 2025.

Stakeholders are encouraged to take note of these dates to ensure adequate planning and preparation for a smooth academic year.
