Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has questioned the long-standing claims by Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong that he is a self-made businessman. Speaking on the matter, Kpebu asserted that Agyapong’s financial success is largely tied to government contracts rather than purely private ventures.

“He claims he is self-made, but it is a government contract that made Ken Agyapong rich. Agyapong should come and show us how he made money; he is not a self-made man as he touts himself to be. It’s a government contract. All of us can become rich when we get government contracts,” Kpebu stated.

The lawyer argued that if ordinary Ghanaians had equal access to state contracts, many could achieve similar wealth. He also criticized Agyapong’s posture on job creation, saying it cannot be separated from state-backed support.

Turning to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership race, Kpebu urged the party to look beyond its traditional faces. He believes younger politicians could better represent the party’s future, mentioning Patrick Boamah and Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as strong options.

“Bawumia should choose a younger Muslim and try to sell that to the party. Bawumia is not sellable. He delivered next to nothing,” Kpebu added, offering a sharp critique of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s record.

The comments have sparked discussions within Ghana’s political circles as the NPP prepares for future elections, raising questions about leadership renewal and generational change.
